Nexus Alpha Low Power Systems Ltd

Transport Applications

Nexus Alpha Low Power Systems has a range of fully developed products suitable for the transport sector. These can also be adapted to individual customer requirements, of which this page gives an overview. Please use the links on the left or in the text to obtain more detailed product specific information.

At the heart of our low power products is the HERMES Lite computer. This computer is a fully featured system featuring an ARM processor, and running Linux.

We have developed a range of solar powered display technologies. These utilise HERMES Lite allowing for remote installations where power and fixed line communications are not available.

CHRONOS is the name of our solar powered sign for the display of public transport information. Highly configurable, we can design CHRONOS around your information display requirements. Initial applications are in the bus and rail real-time market where CHRONOS provides a highly cost effective way of bringing real-time information to passengers. By eliminating mains power provision, installation costs are greatly reduced, and the commissioning process simplified.

CHRONOS hardware will interface with any real-time system, so there are no limitations to supply and implementation.

MAIA is our innovative information point. Where a traditional “large box” is not appropriate or simply not necessary, MAIA’s much smaller footprint provides the perfect solution that fits into the urban landscape. Designed to work using any IP connectivity, be that via WiFi, the integrated GPRS or cable, MAIA can be equipped with full audio capability as well as a touch screen. Web access allows for the provision of any information required. Working with our sister company Nexus Alpha, we can also provide tailored real-time public transport information either as an interactive web feed or as a preformatted display.

HELIOS Lite is our LCD display. We’ve not compromised on quality. Our screens are designed to function in the environments in which they are deployed, not because they “probably work” (even though the components are being run outside manufacturer’s specification), but because HELIOS has been designed to ensure that components run within the temperature specification through careful engineering design. The reason why we still have LCD panels running on-street over ten years after initial installation is because of this attention to detail.

HELIOS LED: Because our HERMES computers are designed to be able to support any third party LED display, we can ensure the customer has the widest possible choice.

All NALPS computers are designed with integrated audio. Hence all NALPS systems offer compliance with The Equality Act 2010 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as standard. (The Equality Act 2010 replaced most of The Disability Discrimination Act - or 'DDA' as it was often referred to.)

Both HELIOS Lite and HELIOS LED feature our ATLAS column. ATLAS can be fitted with an internal pulley system, which allows the screen to be brought down to low level for servicing and maintenance. This helps simplify both installation and servicing, and hence reduces costs. ATLAS can be supplied as a stand-alone solution; we’re happy to integrate other third party screens onto the bracket (it’s just that we’ll probably show you our display solutions at the same time!).
