Approach
In 2005 Nexus Alpha’s Engineering Department started designing and implementing new low power display systems for the public transport sector. We wanted to produce a fully functional solar powered sign, uncompromised by the need to run on a very limited power budget. The development is completed, and we are now launching Nexus Alpha Low Power Systems Limited.
What makes us unique is that our computers and signs require so little energy that they can be powered using a moderate sized solar panel. What is more, the power reduction is not at the expense of functionality. This means that our systems can be installed in remote locations, or in locations where providing mains power is either disruptive or expensive (or indeed both) but can still be programmed to undertake some significant processing and local management tasks. This opens up many new opportunities where such things as information provision, monitoring, recording and reporting are now possible where previously they were not.
But our ethos goes further than that. Why use more power than is needed? If a 3W computer can carry out the tasks required to power a 50W LCD panel, why use a 40W (or even a 10W) computer? And what if a 0.5W computer can complete the task? We don’t sacrifice the quality of our solution - indeed we often enhance it as low power systems are inherently more robust.
Solar and low power is not a compromise - it’s a benefit. About this, we are absolutely passionate.
Please help us change the way people think about power.
